Lateral - Away from the midline
of the body (trunk). Outside edge of the leg or foot.
Ligament - Connective tissue between
the bones.
Liner - Material used between the
patients skin and prosthetic/orthotic device. The material
is normally soft to provide protection and comfort for soft
tissue. When a liner is used for prosthetics it can also be
used for suspension.
Lordosis - Is a curvature of the lumber
spine. Sometimes called “Sway-back'. The lumbar region of
the back dips in.
Lower extremity - Below the waist
referring to the legs.

Lumbar Sacral Orthosis - (LSO), An
orthosis (brace) which is prescribed to support or control
the lumbar region of the spine.
Lumbar Spine - The five spinal vertebrae
in the lower back. Located between the pelvis and the ribs.
