Edema - Collection of fluids causing
swelling of the tissue.
Endoskeletal design - (Inside skeleton)
a prosthesis that has the structural components inside that
allows for exchange of components and adjustments. An endoskeletal
system is covered with a cosmetic foam that is shaped to match
the sound side limb.
Energy storing foot - Prosthetic component
designed to capture energy during weight bearing, so that
when the foot is lifted up the energy is released pushing
the prosthesis forward. This action is done to decrease the
amount of muscle energy the amputee has to provide.
Ertl Procedure - A trans-tibial amputation
technique in which bone is placed between the distal tibia
and fibula to form a bridge.
Evaluation interface - See also, check
socket.
Exoskeletal Design - (Outside skeleton)
a prosthesis that has a rigid, laminated outside shell.
Extension - To straighten a joint.
(Unbend a joint)
